From The North Grove Kitchen: Tal's Spicy Hummus

You know we love hummus here at The North Grove! As an alternative to Maryann’s famous hummus, Tal, a volunteer at The North Grove, makes a delicious spicy version!

This recipe quickly became a favourite of both volunteers and staff and gives a kick to our favourite vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (~19 oz) chickpeas, rinsed and drained

  • 1/3 cup water

  • 1/3 cup lemon juice

  • 1/3 cup olive oil

  • 1/3 cup tahini

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp cumin

  • 4-6 cloves fresh garlic

  • Sprinkle of paprika

  • A sprinkle of chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Blend ingredients until smooth in food processor or blender.

  2. Serve with olive oil, paprika and chili flakes on top.

The North Grove gratefully acknowledges that we live and work in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.

This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship which Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, and Passamaquoddy People first signed with the British Crown in 1726. We are all treaty people.

People of African descent have also shared these lands for more than 400 years.

We acknowledge the histories, contributions, and legacies of these communities and are grateful to live, work and grow food in Mi’kma’ki.
