Community health practitioner and senior public servant join The North Grove Board of Directors

Updated: 2 hours ago

Susan Mullin, Chair of The North Grove’s Board of Directors, today announced two new additions to the community hub’s Board.

Joanne Boyd

Joanne is a familiar face at The North Grove. An active volunteer since 2021, Joanne works two busy shifts a week at Community Lunch and Thursday meal prep. Joanne is an occupational therapist who spent 20 years working at Connections Halifax in community mental health, supporting and empowering people with mental illness to live independently. She has supported Margaret's House, in downtown Dartmouth, as a Board member for 15 years and is a very active volunteer in school and sports activities for her four children.

Rosalind (Roz) Penfound

Roz spent 20 years in leadership roles within the provincial public service, serving as Deputy Minister in a wide range of portfolios from education and early childhood development to fisheries and aquaculture, immigration, seniors and status of women. After leaving the public service in 2013 she moved into leadership roles at the Nova Scotia Community College.

Roz graduated from Dal's law school and has held dozens of Board positions including Feed NS, ISANS, and Banook Canoe Club.

“Joanne and Roz have both professional and board-level experiences in fields that directly relate to The North Grove’s impact,” says Board Chair Susan Mullin.

“Joanne’s background coupled with her volunteer experience with us will help the Board stay close to community needs. The provincial government is one of the organization’s most significant partners, so Roz’s deep experience in the public service is a valuable resource.”

The Board now comprises 11 directors who bring a wide range of perspectives, experience and expertise.

“The North Grove community has changed so much over the past five years. I look forward to working with Joanne, Roz and the entire Board on continuing to adapt and evolve to meet the challenges and opportunities facing this community,” says Laura Horn, Executive Director.
