A note from Wendy

Updated: 5 days ago

I want to thank all of you – community members, volunteers, partners, and supporters, for making the North Grove part of your life. I love being part of this community.

I've been working over 40 years in community programs, and I have never, ever been part of a community that is as incredible as Dartmouth North.

There are a few reasons for that...

Many of you grew up here, went to school here, and you've been friends or connected as neighbours since you were children. You've also welcomed lots of newcomers to this community. You've made it a place for people to feel seen and respected and have offered your support and friendship.

The care, kindness, and warmth that this community shows to one another everyday will stick with me forever and is a huge part of why I love it here so much. ‘We Stand Together’ is not just our tagline, it’s the way things are in The North Grove community!

I want you to know that the organization is in great hands. As you know, The North Grove has the best staff team in the city, and they're going to continue to provide amazing programming, personal support and a place of welcome for everyone. I'm also really happy that our Director of Programs & Services, Laura Horn has taken over as the next Executive Director. Laura's been here over two years and really understands and cares for this community. I can’t think of anyone who is better suited to the role.

Personally, you have all been part of making this the best time of my career. Working here has filled my heart. Thank you, and you haven’t seen the last of me! My guess is that I will be coming back to volunteer in some way, because I can't imagine never seeing you again or being part of the magic that is The North Grove.

Thank you so much for making the last six years of my life so special. This is the best place to retire from, but the hardest place to leave.

With gratitude,

Wendy Fraser

Executive Director

The North Grove gratefully acknowledges that we live and work in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaq people.

This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship which Mi’kmaq, Wolastoqiyik, and Passamaquoddy People first signed with the British Crown in 1726. We are all treaty people.

People of African descent have also shared these lands for more than 400 years.

We acknowledge the histories, contributions, and legacies of these communities and are grateful to live, work and grow food in Mi’kma’ki.
